The five basic grades/types of stainless steels are austenitic, ferritic, duplex, martensitic, and precipitation hardening.

Different Types of Fabrication Process

Machining - involves the removal of metal from a material. It may be done using a lathe or some other cutting machine. If using a lathe the material moves against it, while in the case of a drill the tool rotates in different ways against a fixed piece.

Cutting - The oldest form of cutting is by a saw. Modern methods include laser, waterjet cutting, and plasma. These vary in cost and complexity.

Punching - This uses a punch and the die. A  die is a part that cuts out the piece of metal and makes a hole in it. 

Welding - is the process of joining two metal joints. Many kinds of welding are used for different applications and metals used for the stainless steel fabrication process.

Shearing - This is done by a long cut made on a metal piece. It is generally done on sheet metal.

Folding - This is one of the more common steel fabrication process used.  You will need a break press for this one. The break press has dies that form creases in the metal or steel by pinching it. This is highly dependednt on the dies’ shape.

Stamping - also similar to the process of punching except the material is not cut. The die is made in a way that causes the material to be raised instead of penetrating the metal.
