Rural Areas Electricity Company (Tanweer) is an Omani registered shareholding company registered under the Commercial Companies Law of the Sultanate of Oman. The Company commenced its operations on May 1, 2005, following the implementation of a decision of the Ministry of National Economy issued pursuant to Regulation and Privatization of the Electricity and Related Water Sector law promulgated by Royal Decree 78/2004.

Tanweer is wholly owned by the Electricity Holding Company "Nama Group" , which is also owned by the Ministry of Finance. Tanweer offers its services in the authorized areas of Musandam, Al Wusta, Dhofar (excluding DPC concession areas) and parts of the Dakhilia governorates, which are located in South East.
