Al-Hani’s story is that of modern Kuwait. Founded in 1963, it has grown in tandem with our small but ambitious country, playing a leading role in the realisation of some its most prestigious projects and major landmark public buildings, as well as in several other countries across the Middle East.

Its story begins with the meeting between an ambitious young executive, Abdel Muhsin Al-Qattan and Hajj Khaled Yussef Al-Mutawwa. Mr Al-Qattan was fresh from a job as Deputy Director General of Kuwait’s Water and Electricity Ministry, responsible for overseeing major infrastructure projects including the first ever provision of fresh water to Kuwait City, while Hajj Khaled Al-Mutawwa was one of Kuwait’s most respected and successful businessmen. This was the beginning of a solid, family partnership that continues to this day.

Throughout these years, Al-Hani has been committed to building long-term relationships with its clients, based on trust, transparency, reliability and performance. Our clients know we have the technical skills, resources and expertise to deliver their projects to the highest standards to deadline and on budget. We have also been led by exceptionally talented CEOs – Engineer Hisham Shibel from 1965 to 1998 and Engineer Mahmoud Abu Amer from 2005 until today, both of whom became partners in the company during their tenure.

We follow strict health and safety, as well as environmental, procedures and have rigorous procurement protocols in place. We take pride in caring for our staff, whose exceptional skills and expertise are key to our company’s success. Thanks to their loyalty and performance, we have been able to deliver on our promises and rise to significant technical challenges. It is also why key employee turnover, whether at senior or junior level, is exceptionally low at Al-Hani.

It has been a challenging journey. Having started as a small family business, we are now among the top construction companies in Kuwait. But like our country, we have faced major political and economic hurdles including invasion, recession and regional turmoil, all of which we managed to overcome with responsive and prudent planning and risk management, which has made us exceptionally resilient in a very volatile global construction sector. Our major challenge today is to sustain growth while maintaining a rigorous and conservative financial strategy in an increasingly competitive and uncertain sector, and in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic and the dramatic drop in oil prices.

2017 saw the very sad passing of our founder, Abdel Mohsin Al-Qattan, yet his legacy remains at the heart of our strategy: ambitious growth underpinned by probity, high levels of employee satisfaction, investment in new technological and management innovations and a conservative financial policy that has ensured profitability as well as continuity.
