A 'cut and thrust', double-edged, long sword that gave the wielder an added advantage in battle. 'Excalibur', the legendary sword from 'King Arthur' was a broadsword with which great things were accomplished when wielded by the worthy Arthur. 

The Broadsword was the military weapon of choice, wielded by the most skillful knights, and then too, only those that had mastered the sword with years of experience. 

The best of the best alone earned the privilege of battling with the Broadsword. And proving themselves to be all-rounded warriors, the knight who wielded it was said to be the equivalent of a battalion.
